Deepening Your Dance: Back to the Foundation

5-Week Online Dance Course Curriculum
Live Classes: March 16th and 30th and April 6th, 13th and 27th.
Time: 11am to 1pm (Toronto Time)

Course Overview:
This 5-week course is designed to deepen students' connection to their dance practice by returning to the foundational principles of movement, expression, and cultural significance. Rooted in the Silvestre Technique, symbology of Orixá dance, and Brazilian Samba, this course will align body, mind, and spirit through a combination of movement practice, theoretical discussion, and creative exploration. Each session is structured as a 2-hour online class integrating guided movement, discussions, and reflection exercises.

Week 1 (March 16th): Body Consciousness - Foundations in the Silvestre Technique
Objective: Develop awareness of the body as an instrument for movement by understanding its natural elements and aligning body, mind, and spirit.

Week 2 (March 30th): The Wisdom of Symbols - Connecting Nature to Movement
Objective: Deepen the understanding of the symbolic language in movement and how it connects to the sacred elements of Orixas

Week 3 (April 6th): Rooting the Dance - The Connection Between the Drum the Body
Objective: Explore the evolution of Samba and its deep connection to African roots.

Week 4 (April 13th): Body Expression - Returning to Foundation
Objective: Explore the role of personal expression within structured movement and the ongoing return to foundational elements

Week 5 (April 27th): Creative Process Within Foundation
Objective: Integrate all course components into a personal creative movement exploration that honors foundational principles

By the end of this course, students will have a deeper understanding of their dance practice, the role of foundational movement principles, and the symbolic and cultural connections that enrich their expression. This journey will not only enhance technical skills but also deepen the spiritual and emotional connection to movement, fostering an integrated approach to dance.

This is an open level program, designed for students to deepen their understanding of the dance world, also for those aspiring to become instructors, and for current instructors.

We recommend and ask that all students be present for the live class, but if you need to miss a specific class, you will be able to watch the recording later.
